Soda Stream Review!

Growing up, having a soda with grandpa after playing in his orchard was a great way to relax and have a sweet treat ☺ Now adays, we know the dangers of sugary drinks on our children's teeth, so we try to limit soda and other sugary non sense! When you want to give your child soda, one way to do it is by making your own! Soda Stream makes it possible! Making soda at home is great because you can make a small amount and help limit the soda intake in your families diet! Check out these comparisons of other major soda brands vs. Soda Stream soda mixes

This is also a great way to go green! You can constantly reuse the plastic bottles, so you aren't wasting plastic or filling landfills with stuff that takes forever to break down!  There are so many great things that you get from Soda Stream soda that you don't get with other companies! Did you know that Soda Stream uses regular water to make the soda?  You put water in the bottle, add carbonation from your Soda maker and add flavor! Simple and quick!  You can even use it to make Sparkling Water!

I got to try out the Jet Stream soda maker:

"The Jet soda maker comes in a range of bi-colored machines specially created to the colored pallete of any modern kitchen. Among the Jet features are: automatic access gas release mechanism, fits extra large carbonators - optional 100 liter aluminum cylinder, minimal space usage, customized carbonation level and easy to clean drip tray."-Soda Stream Website

I also got to try a variety of flavors, as well as some of their MyWater flavor Essences to add a little flavor to sparkling or tap water!  The soda mixes actually compared to big brand soda companies! I made a batch of the Lemon Lime and the Cola right away and my friends and family agreed that it tasted like the big name sodas!

There are 34 flavors of soda, so you are sure to find one that will be the best for your family! Check out the variety here to see what you would like to try!

The carbonation bottles are BPA free!!  No bad chemicals in this plastic! Just another reason why Soda Stream is a great choice!

SodaStream: Better than recycling

How Does SodaStream Help the Environment?
SodaStream is an "Active Green" product, meaning that consumers  are actively reducing their CO2 footprint every time they make soda  or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store. The more the system is used on a daily basis, the more CO2 footprint the user actively saves. (This differs from "Passive Green" products, which use green-friendly production processes, but their products are not inherently helping the consumers save on their daily footprint.)

Because SodaStream uses water straight from the tap, the system makes traditional store-bought beverage bottles obsolete. That means less plastic manufactured, less plastic waste is created, and fewer bottled beverages must be transported from manufacturers to distributors to stores to homes.

Globally, 206 billion liters of bottled water were consumed in 2008 (Zenith International Global Bottled Water Report, 2008). The energy required to make water bottles in the US only, is equivalent to 17 million barrels of oil (Container Recycling Institute, 2002).

According to the US Recycling Institute, more than 80% of bottles in the US do not get recycled and end up in landfills. Also, an estimated 4.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions were produced in the process of replacing the 134 billion bottles and cans not recycled in 2005.

Using your own home carbonation system means:
  • Less packaging waste from cans and bottles.
  • Less pollution caused by transport of bottled beverages.
One SodaStream carbonator makes 60 or 110 liters, equivalent to 170 or 310 aluminum cans! When empty, the carbonator is refilled and reused, ready to make more fizzy and tasty soda whenever you want it.

  1. Sounds awesome, Lisa. I don't own a counter top carbonator - can't afford it - am saving the bucks though. But I do own a handheld portable soda maker called the Fizz Giz. It was cheap (under thirty bucks) and it works great. I agree with you on the convenience and the money savings. I can buy genuine Coca Cola Classic syrup from Sam's Club. 12oz single serving sized drinks only cost me 19 cents each for syrup. The water & co2 is so cheap - it's negligible. Maybe one day I'll save $250 to drop on the Penguin or $350 to buy a Sodamistic. There's like twenty soda maker manufacturers out there. It's hard to decide which one to buy. There's a good list of them to be found at this website: http://www.fizzgiz.com/competitors_and_diy_options.htm
