I absolutely love being a Chiquita mom! I get all sorts of great ideas and recipes with bananas, and I get to share my insight with other moms! It was a huge hit with my family and my kids just LOVE going to the movies! This is a great thing to do with your kids!

Barkonomics:Tips for Frugal Fidos Book Review

I love my dog.  He is seriously part of our family!  What would I do without him? I ask myself this now, but when my husband wanted to get the dog I was less than enthusiastic.  Dogs are expensive!  Vet bills, registration, food, toys....the list goes on and on.  Where can we go to find a way to take care of our furry friends without breaking the bank? For a frugal mama like me, this was an important question to answer!

I came across Barkonomics: tips for frugal fidos. This book has so many wonderful tips on where to get your pet supplies for less, how to save on adoption fees, vet fees and so much more!! I learned a lot that I didn't know before! You can get your pet's medications at the drug store, instead of paying the more expensive vet prices!  In some areas (including mine!) you get a discounted registration price when you have your dog spayed or neutered.  And of course it is so much cheaper to obtain a dog from a local shelter than to purchase a pure breed dog or even one at a pet store. And a bonus-a lot of shelters these days micro chip your pet, making it easy to identify your dog and contact you should it run away.


Barkonomics is organized into different chapters, and in the table of contents each chapter has a list of some of the types of tips for each category.  This makes it super quick and easy to find a quick tip whenever you need it! The authors Paris Permenter and John Bigley, did a wonderful job of carefully explaining the best process for choosing your dog, feeding it, caring for it and more, all with frugal living in mind!!

Applied Labels Review

It seems like kids lose and misplace things so easily. Or at least mine do!!  And so it can be a difficult task to find them and if you do, it can be tough to be sure it is yours (or your child's!)  One way to help solve this problem is to use diswasher and laundry safe labels! The tags have stuck and helped to make sure she comes home with her stuff! It makes it real easy to identify if something makes its way to the lost and found!!

It also makes it easy to identify what belongs to who in a daycare or classroom!  The bottle labels make it easy to see whose is whose in the fridge and are made to last!! These labels are something every parent needs to have!! This is much clearer to read than a hand written label or using a permanent marker to write on the clothing or plastic bottle.  This is quick, easy and long lasting!!  What a wonderful solution to labeling!!

Eyebuy Direct.com Review & Giveaway!!

EyeBuyDirect.com recently offered the opportunity to review a pair of prescription glasses for my blog!! I was excited to get to try some new glasses! I was really eager to see their selection and check out the site, and started shopping right away! I liked several different pairs before choosing the Alessandria frames:

I tried with a webcam, I tried it with a pre taken picture, and neither way worked.  The glasses were way too in ratio to my face, and when I used a closer face shot, the glasses got bigger.  It didn't work.  So I tried to find one of their models with a face shape most similar to mine.  I liked them on her!  The funny thing is, I tried again and got it to work, but AFTER the glasses arrive!! And on top of that, they look cuter on the website than they did on me!! Maybe I just need to get used to them more!

I'm not sure why I had troubles the first few times I used the Try Before You Buy, but now that I have I think it is great! I love being able to try different frames, and you can even save the images and compare different frames easily!! This makes it easier to shop online and get something you like!!

Rubbermaid Junk Drawer Organizer Review and Giveaway!

I bet you and I have something in common. I am sure that somewhere in your house, you have a junk drawer. Maybe it's big, maybe it's small. But it's your catchall, the place where you put this and that when you lack a better place to put it.  Stuff you can't seem to do without but don't have a good place to put it.  I know I do! I have one, my husband has one.  So I was thrilled when Rubbermaid offered me to try out their new Junk Drawer Organizer to help with my disorganization!!  Well I was a bit bummed when the dimensions of the interlocking Junk Drawer Organizers didn't fit in the drawer I wanted to use it on.  So I started trying to figure out how to best use the system, and decided to use it in my bathroom medicine cabinet! We store everything that is used often in there-toothbrushes, hair deals, medicines, etc.  Here is a pic of how it looked BEFORE:

 

Messy, unorganized and not nice too look at! We are always on the go so much that it just ended up like that.  Well no more!! Take a look at the fab job in my AFTER pic:

Nice, neat and ORGANIZED!! All the toothbrushes are together, hair ties have a place-it all fit so nicely!! The only organizer I was unable to use was the large one, I believe it is the  6"x15".  I ended up using that one on my shelf in the bathroom to put small bottles of hair products and other small things to keep them together. I can just pull out the box to get what I need and look into without having to make a mess.  The entire system makes everything nicer to look at and makes it efficient!  I was so proud I had to run out and show my husband what I had done!!  ☺  What can I say, I love being Suzy Homemaker!!

I wanted to share some fabulous Junk Drawer Organizing Tips from Rubbermaid:

Bringing order to your home's most over-used drawer

Everyone has one. But few of us use it effectively. Yes, that’s right: the family junk drawer. Almost always in the kitchen, it becomes a catchall for everything from specialty kitchen tools to spare keys, gum to school permission slips, office supplies to emergency essentials. Here’s our four-step plan to help you sort through the mess and transform your drawer from junky to ingenious!
STEP 1: ASSESS THE MESS
Take everything out of the drawer and put it on a (spacious!) flat surface. What’s actually in there? There’s stuff that should be there (batteries, extra keys), and probably a lot that shouldn’t: tools, school permission slips, junk mail, candy. Determine what’s staying, and what’s going.
STEP 2: RELOCATE WHAT NEEDS RELOCATING
Move the aforementioned misplaced items to their rightful places (in the tool box, into the garbage or recycling bin), then ensure similar items won’t end up in the junk drawer in the future. Put baskets by your front door or mudroom so kids have someplace to stash school notices, and you have a spot to put mail, junk or otherwise. Set up a plastic binder or sleeve to hold takeout menus, placing it near your phone book. And vow to take the extra time to put screwdrivers and drill bits where they belong, to avoid searching later.
STEP 3: CREATE NICHES FOR JUNK-DRAWER ESSENTIALS
Now dedicate space for junk drawer must-haves. These are the things you want on-call on a weekly basis, as when packing lunches, jotting down notes while checking voicemail, handing off the house to a home-sitter or babysitter, lighting candles, and so on. Also, you’ll want to keep some emergency supplies handy, like the essential flashlight and batteries. Shallow plastic drawer organizers, with moveable dividers that can be adjusted to fit drawer size, are perfect for all your junk-drawer needs. Flashlights, notepads and pens, twist-ties, kitchen twine, scissors and matchbooks are all accessible.
STEP 4: CONTAIN TINY MULTIPLES - OR NOTABLES
Paper clips, rubber bands, stamps and loose change benefit from further containment within the organized junk drawer. Use TakeAlongs Twist & Seal single-serving food containers to hold these easy-to-lose items. It’s also a good way to set aside spare keys.

Since Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and because my daughter LOVES to eat cereal before she goes to school, I wanted to try Mom's Best Naturals!

Since we love those yummy little frosted wheat squares of the bigger brands, we decided to try Sweetened Wheatfuls!  They have fewer carbs, more calcium and less sugar than the big brand!! And one big difference I noticed after eating one average size bowl was that I was actually full!!!  So that was a good deal...I am the one that could eat two bowls of cereal regularly. The other cereal we tried was Oats and Honey Blend  which is like one of our other favorite "big brand" cereals.  The best part of these cereals is that they taste just as good as the ones with more sugar and you know your kids are getting good food!

· On a rainy day, built a fort with things you have around the house. Serve lunch and make shadow puppets in the fort.

Rubiks Touch Cube Review

Wow!!! I couldn't believe it when I won a Rubiks Touch Cube!!! Go to check out the amazing video here: Touch Cube Video Well I got it last week! I haven't played with a regular Rubiks cube for a long time so this was fabulous! To move the colors you slide your finger across the top facing side. This works just like a regular Rubiks Cube only without physically turning the sides!! It also features a scramble button to mix it up, a hint button (which it won't let you do if you are improving) and a solve button! This will show you (quickly) the entire process to solve it! What a fun toy!! Great for kids ages 8+
