Uniroyal Soccer Ball Design Challenge

Over the last year or so you have come to know Uniroyal as a company that is trying to help families save money and has some giveaway to help out families. Well, families across the country also know us for the Uniroyal Soccer Program, a program pairs tire dealers nationwide with local soccer leagues to giveaway equipment and funds. Here is more about the soccer program:http://www.uniroyaltires.com/promo/community.html.

The centerpiece of the program is the Uniroyal soccer ball, which has been redesigned each year of the program. This year we are giving the public the chance to design the ball. The Uniroyal Soccer Ball Design Challenge lets kids and parents from across the country submit a design that could be chosen as the winner and featured on soccer balls everywhere. Not only that but the winner will get a great Uniroyal Soccer Prize Pack.

Uniroyal Tires Money Saving Driving Tips!

Follow these tips to save money when it comes to your car!
-Tire Maintenance:

Check the Tread Condition of Your Tires

Place a penny upside down in the most shallow tread groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then your tires need to be replaced (they are under 2/32″ of an inch).

Rotate Tires Regularly

Front tires tend to wear more quickly than rear tires. Periodical rotation of front and rear tires helps balance tread wear and extend the life of your tires. A good rule of thumb is to rotate them at every other oil change (or every 6,000 miles).

Checking the Air Pressure

Recommended tire pressure can be found on your vehicle’s tire placard on the doorjamb, the glove box or your vehicle’s owner’s manual – not on the tire’s sidewall, which is actually the maximum air pressure allowed. Check your tire pressure at least once a month when tires are cold (before driving one mile or three hours after driving).

Auto Maintenance

Change Engine Oil and Filter

Your engine’s oil and oil filter should be changed every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Engine oil lubricant breaks down over time and needs to be changed frequently to protect the engine. When changing your oil, also have the oil filter replaced. It keeps dirt and particles away from the critical components in your engine, so be sure to have it changed to ensure clean burning and maximum efficiency.

Replace Clogged Air Filters

Change your air filter every 15,000 miles to prevent long-term damage to your engine’s internal components. Air filters help extend the life of the engine by keeping impurities in the air from penetrating it.

Check Your Fluids

Make sure your brake, power steering, coolant and transmission fluids are changed every 30,000 miles or so. The fluids can break down over time and need to be replaced. While they usually can be topped off at routine service intervals, be sure to change them regularly to protect your engine.

Money-Saving Driving Habits

Do drive the speed limit. At speeds above 60 miles per hour, gas mileage decreases rapidly.

Do use the air conditioning sparingly to save gas. Instead, while in town, roll down your car’s windows and enjoy the breeze.

Do park in the first spot you find. Not only is the exercise good, but you’ll save gas that would be used up driving around the parking lot in search of a closer spot.

National Tire Safety Week!

National Tire Safety Week is this week! This is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of tires and make sure you know all of the proper tire information to keep your family safe. Below are some important tire basics to remember.

- Check your air pressure at least once a month. Properly inflated tires can keep your family safe and save you money. You should always use the inflation recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. This information can be found in the owner's manual and often on a label located in the vehicle's doorjamb, inside the fuel hatch, or on the glove compartment door.

- Always be aware of your tread depth. The simplest way to check your tread is to place a penny, Lincoln’s head first, into the tread; if you can see the top of his head, the tire needs to be replaced.

- Make sure to rotate your tires. Rotating them ensures uniform wear on all of your tires. Check your owner’s manual for the suggested period of time between rotations. If there is no suggested period of time, the standard is every 6,000-8,000 miles, or every other oil change.

While National Tire Safety Week only lasts for seven days, it’s important to keep these tips in mind throughout the year. Remember, your tires are the only thing between your vehicle and the road, so your safety is riding on them. Keeping them properly maintained with these few simple tips could prevent a major issue. More Mileage For Your Money

I have a big Thank You for Allison White, a PR Rep for Uniroyal Tires. She is is working on a campaign with Kim Danger of mommysavers.com all about family savings!! Allison introduced me to More Mileage For Your Money It is the site Kim Danger is doing! There are all kinds of great stories, coupons and more on the site!!

More Mileage for Your Money covers topics from saving while traveling in the summer to shopping and cooking efficiently. There will be a new series beginning in January. Their 2009 series included topics such as: getting your finances in order, pampering yourself for less, back to school on a budget and more. You can check out the site

Kim wants to show families that a budget doesn’t have to put a damper on family fun. Some of her tips include:

· Set up a neighborhood scavenger hunt. It will encourage them to work together in teams, with older kids helping out the younger ones. Divide kids into two teams and give each team a big bag and a list of things in your neighborhood, ranging from very easy to difficult to find.

· Have a fun family theme night at home. Get creative with food, activities and game games. Turn off cell phones, televisions, computers and other distractions so you can give loved ones your full attention.

· On a rainy day, built a fort with things you have around the house. Serve lunch and make shadow puppets in the fort.

Uniroyal is also having two giveaways that last all year. There is a monthly drawing for a $100 gift card, available at Uniroyal Tires As an extension of the 10th anniversary of the Uniroyal Soccer Program, Uniroyal will give away a soccer ball every day in 2010!! So be sure to check out More Mileage for Your Money and Uniroyal Tires!!
