National Tire Safety Week!

National Tire Safety Week is this week! This is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of tires and make sure you know all of the proper tire information to keep your family safe. Below are some important tire basics to remember.

- Check your air pressure at least once a month. Properly inflated tires can keep your family safe and save you money. You should always use the inflation recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. This information can be found in the owner's manual and often on a label located in the vehicle's doorjamb, inside the fuel hatch, or on the glove compartment door.

- Always be aware of your tread depth. The simplest way to check your tread is to place a penny, Lincoln’s head first, into the tread; if you can see the top of his head, the tire needs to be replaced.

- Make sure to rotate your tires. Rotating them ensures uniform wear on all of your tires. Check your owner’s manual for the suggested period of time between rotations. If there is no suggested period of time, the standard is every 6,000-8,000 miles, or every other oil change.

While National Tire Safety Week only lasts for seven days, it’s important to keep these tips in mind throughout the year. Remember, your tires are the only thing between your vehicle and the road, so your safety is riding on them. Keeping them properly maintained with these few simple tips could prevent a major issue.
