Xia-Xia Pets Review and Giveaway!! {Holiday Gift Guide 2011}

Have you met the cute little Xia-Xia pets yet??  These adorable little hermit crabs are a hot toy this year, and will be in stores in just a few weeks! There are 4 different crabs, 12 interchangeable shells,  and 3 fun playsets (not to mention all their little friends!)  These undersea critters will bring out your child's imagination and creativity for all sorts of  great playtime!

My 3 little girls were just beside themselves when they first laid eyes on these cute critters!  They immediately tried to deal out who got which crab, with which shells, little friends, and which "house" (My 6 year old decided she got the biggest since she is the oldest).

The playsets were quick and easy to put together, I didn't even need the directions.  I just looked at the box to see where things went together. Most of the pieces snap in, so if the set gets moved you may have to snap a few parts back in. But they are sturdy and fun to play with!  The Copacabana playset is my favorite, and nice and open for all the kids to share.

The crabs are Trinidad (orange), Bimini (pink), Turks (Purple) and Tobago (blue).  They all fit all the different shells, and you can intermix the shell and the base. Everything just snaps on and pops right off, so even my youngest (she is almost 3) was able to play with the toys easily.  The small "little friends" are pretty tiny, so discretion should be used with small children.  The "little friends" go inside the shell or can be played with!

 We got 2 of the Trinidad and 2 of the Tobago crabs, along with 4 extra shell sets and the 3 playsets! They are so much fun to interchange and there are endless possibilities! My daughters were playing and when one wanted their crab to "go somewhere" the other said "wait I have to change my shell" like she was changing a doll's clothes! The best part of these little crabs is being able to change them over and over!

These toys are colorful, fun and super cute!  The Xia-Xia pets also have wheels, so when you scoot them on a hard surface their little legs and claws move! My girls come home every day from school ready to play with the "little crabs"!   This toy is sure to be a hit this year!

Petcakes Collectibles Series 2 Review!

You may have seen my previous review of the adorable Petcakes Collectibles in the Series 1 collection! These super cute critters look good enough to eat! They make a great gift for any occasion for that special little one in your life! I love them and my kids can't get enough of them! Lucky for us I got to review the Series 2 collection! My middle child loves pandas, so I know this would be the perfect one for her! I love how its little paws poke out, almost like he is trying to climb out to say hello! The little faces are just too cute and this toy is great! My kids love them so much! I even gave my nieces some for Christmas! They were a huge hit!!  Petcakes were even named one of Time To Play's top 10 stuffed animals!! These toys are great!

Toys for Boys! Hasbro Holiday Gift Ideas!!

Even though all my kids are girls, I do have a few special little guys to shop for during the holidays!! My nephews and my best friend's little boy all love Spiderman! I liked that you could add extra toys. My daughter mother in law had this silly little tiny circle funny thing that my baby just chews the heck out of.  I don't know why she loves it so much,but she does. Luckily it attaches easily to link a doos and so it clips right on the activity center! My other favorite feature? I love that it was soooo easy to put together! With my hubby away for work, I have had to become more handy than usual! I was able to put this together easily and on my own!! Girl power!!!

Lacing Shoe Toy Review and Giveaway From Oompa Toys!

Childhood isn't complete without lots of toys!! We all have a favorite toy that brings back fond memories. When choosing toys for my kids, I like to try to find ones that are more than your average toy.  I like toys that help develop skills, challenge the mind and still are entertaining! I also like toys that are safe for them of course.  I was so excited to find Oompa!! They offer great toys that totally fit my wants and needs!

Here's a little about Oompa from their About Us page: The idea for Oompa Toys took hold in 2003. Early one morning I crept into my infant daughter's room and tripped on a plastic, battery-operated walker. Loud animal noises instantly blared from the seemingly innocuous toy. I had a bleeding toe and stifled some not too pleasant words. A cacophony of clucking chickens, moo-ing cows and quacking ducks would not be silenced despite my best efforts. I gladly (and somewhat vindictively), threw the walker in the trash. An electronic bovine moo'ed as I walked away.

I felt there was something unnatural about surrounding my daughter with so many disposable toys. I wondered if she dreamt of copyrighted characters or if her first words would be "Dora" or "Mickey". I wondered if she would ever learn to use her imagination. She did, after all, play with toys that with the push of a single button did and said everything for her. I donated most of the contents of her room to a local charity the next morning.

Finding replacement toys that were well designed and not covered with characters owned by publicly traded companies proved difficult. Most local stores stocked toys made of synthetic materials and finishes. Existing web sites had limited selections and poor customer service. After months of looking I began to feel the type of toys I wanted didn't exist. Finally, during a trip to Europe, I discovered a plethora of toys that were not only made of natural, beautiful materials, but objects I wouldn't mind having in my home for years. I knew other parents in the United States would appreciate these European toys and that I had to bring Oompa Toys to fruition.

My interactive agency background as a graphic designer, programmer and project manager for several Fortune 500 companies proved useful. A developer at heart, I feverishly created the first version of the Oompa Toys web site while pregnant with my second child. Inventory was warehoused in my garage. My brother and sisters generously donated evenings and weekends to help get the business up and running. Finally, with the help of my husband (co-founder ofMochila) I created the Oompa Toys brand as one of the leading online specialty toy retailers.

As a mother with relatives in a developing country, I believe toys should not only be natural and well-made, but created in humane and safe working conditions by adults and with absolutely no child-labor. I go to great lengths to ensure toys within the Oompa family do, indeed, come from safe environments. I got to try out the Bajo Lacing Shoe!!  It has the ties in the front to learn how to tie shoes, and something I think is even better-holes in the side to lace a "needle" through with a string!! This is one of my favorite fine motor toys!  My kids love to play with it and "sew" the shoe in different patterns! The wheels roll so it can be pulled behind for yet another way to play! This toy is versatile and fun!

Rubiks Touch Cube Review

Wow!!! I couldn't believe it when I won a Rubiks Touch Cube!!! Go to check out the amazing video here: Touch Cube Video Well I got it last week! I haven't played with a regular Rubiks cube for a long time so this was fabulous! To move the colors you slide your finger across the top facing side. This works just like a regular Rubiks Cube only without physically turning the sides!! It also features a scramble button to mix it up, a hint button (which it won't let you do if you are improving) and a solve button! This will show you (quickly) the entire process to solve it! What a fun toy!! Great for kids ages 8+
