Hasbro's Fun On The Run Games {Holiday Gift Guide 2011}

Holidays mean travel for many families.  Keeping the kids entertained during travel time is no fun!   So why not make it fun by giving them one of Hasbro's Fun on the Run Games??  There are many of the games that are already your favorites, made into a fun and easy to play travel version! Play anywhere, anytime!

My little ones got to review Connect 4-one of my favorites as a kid! Its great because any of the kids can play, its pretty simple and fun!   Just get 4 in a row, and keep the other person from doing it first!

Product Description:

Play a round of your CONNECT 4 game anytime, anywhere with this awesome set! The convenient, self-contained storage case doubles as the game grid, so you can set it up and start playing wherever you are. Drop your checkers into the grid to try to connect four vertically, diagonally or horizontally!

This game had small pieces, so I recommend getting a ziploc bag to keep the checkers in, one for each color if you want.  Other than that the game is great to travel with and fun to play! It provided entertainment for a good 15 minutes which is a record with my little girls!

These affordable games are portable versions of favorites such as CONNECT 4, HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOS, GUESS WHO? and BATTLESHIP. When the vacation is over, kids can pack these games in a backpack for fun on the school bus or during an after-school play date.  The games are packed full of fun and great to take anywhere! Make sure to grab some before traveling this holiday season! Check out hasbro.com for more info!

Hasbro Ji Ga Zo Puzzle Game Review

I like puzzles but don't like to do the same one over and over. I found a way to spend less money on puzzles and a way to do any picture you want for your puzzle! It's called Ji Ga Zo, and it's from Hasbro!  This unique puzzle game allows you to upload your favorite photo, create a map as a guide to do the puzzle, then get to work!

Ji Ga Zo, a revolutionary new product, allows you to use photos to create personalized puzzles. In fact, you can use the same 300 pieces in the puzzle to make virtually any image – a child, spouse, friend, pet or celebrity! Each game comes with CD-Rom software to convert any image into a puzzle map of symbols and colors. The map is then used to transform the sepia-colored pieces into your image. Since the puzzle is assembled based on a custom map, the image can be changed, the map updated and the pieces reshuffled for hours and days of fun!

I really wish you all could see just how cool this is in person.  It's so much fun to upload your photo, print out the assembly map, then put together your puzzle!  And the kids thought it was so cool to be able to see themselves as a puzzle! I couldn't believe how this worked, and thought it was the best puzzle I have ever seen! I won't have to buy puzzles anymore, since I can use this one over and over!  I was really glad to be able to try this out! Buy Ji Ga Zo for just $24.99 from Hasbro by clicking here!

I was not compensated for this post. I was given the above mentioned product in exchange for a review on my blog.  All opinions are honest and 100% my own.  Photos from Hasbro.

December Savings from Hasbro Games

The final countdown to the holiday season has begun! During this festive time of year, it is always important to remember that one of the best gifts is time spent together as a family. Relationship expert Karen Deerwester reminds us that “laughter is the foundation for a resilient, happy family. In this fast-paced time of year, Family Game Nights renew families and encourage us to be our best and have fun!”
With busy holiday schedules, Deerwester suggests five ways that games can help families de-stress during this time of year:

1. Don’t over-schedule. Choose a night that works for the entire family and enjoy un-plugged fun with Hasbro games
2. Give yourself a break and plan for a takeout dinner to save time for games during Family Game Night
3. Get the children involved by having them choose games -- they’ll be excited to participate!
4. Bring home new games to inspire unexpected fun
5. Reward the family for playing by giving special awards, privileges and treats

If you have gifts to check off on your holiday shopping list or are in search for fun entertainment as your family gathers during the yuletide season, look no further than the game aisle. On December 5, check inside your USA Weekend to find exclusive coupons offering $5 off a great selection of Hasbro games including brands that you know and love, such as Scrabble, Twister, Trivial Pursuit, Sorry!, Pictureka!, and more. And starting December 6, visit www.familygamenight.com to access these coupons online.

I have a partnership with Hasbro and they asked me to share this post. I was not compensated for doing so.

Hasbro Family Game Night: Trivial Pursuit Bet U Know It & Trivial Pursuit+Giveaway (3 winners!)

I'm the kinda mom who would rather stay in, put the kids to bed, have a drink or two and play a game with a few good friends. Who needs to be out at the bars when you can have a few close friends over for good drinks and lots of laughs? I love to play Hasbro games on our game nights, whether it is Family Game Night or girls night!  I think Family Game Night is important because it is a wholesome way to bring your family together and do something fun! This is a great activity for any family, and Hasbro offers so many great games to make your Family Game Night perfect!

Recently I got together with my husband's sister and our very close friend for a night full of fun! We played Trivial Pursuit Bet You Know It and were surprised at how it went! We all thought the person with the most questions answered right would end up winning. The beauty of the Bet You Know it edition is that you can be the one who doesn't get any of the questions right and you can still win!  My sister in law ended up buying most of her wedges, and she won the game!

Product Description:
Bet You Know It edition is the most inclusive and exciting version of TRIVIAL PURSUIT yet, where players don't have to know all the answers to win - but they do need to know their friends!  TRIVIAL PURSUIT: Bet You Know It edition introduces high stakes betting to trivia, where players bet on whether or not their opponents know the answer. Guess correctly and players will earn chips that can be used to buy wedges -- or they can earn wedges by answering questions correctly on their turn. On each turn players are able to choose their favorite from one of four rotating topic cards in the specially designed "Mixologist" envelope. So, players may answer a GEOGRAPHY question about Dogs, Breakfast, Broadway, or Jingles. TRIVIAL PURSUIT "Bet You Know It" cards have 1,800 fresh questions which also feature a variety of new styles including images and multiple choice.  With a chance to earn a wedge on every turn - victory is that much closer!

We loved this game so much!  We had so much fun laughing at the crazy impossible questions and hilarious responses we would come up with.  The game did take quite a while to play, I think almost 2 hours.  We also didn't read ALL the directions, so we weren't aware of the limit on how much you can bet at a time until later on in the game.  But still, it was alot of fun and is now our  new favorite game. I had to do a bit of coaxing to get my friend to play at first, but she was super into it very quickly! There are a variety of genress and some pretty funny topics!  This game will be a great way to spend time with anyone 16 and over!!

I also got to try Trivial Pursuit Steal:

STEAL is the perfect trivia game if you have just 15 minutes to spare.  This fast-paced game is the first ever Trivial Pursuit card game that combines questions and answers with the strategy of winning your wedges by stealing your opponents' - all in a quick-play card game.

This game is perfect for me and the hubby to play, since it is hard to have time to play a long time together. It is fun to be able to win by stealing from your opponent, makes for an entertaining game.  The questions are just about the same as a regular game, and I am all about trivia games!  Steal can be quick too, once you get the hang of it and learn how to strattegize! I love that even if you don't get all your questions you can still win the game! This makes it more fun for someone who doesn't always do well at trivia games!  And I also loved that it was a card game, which means easy to take with you anywhere and no little pieces to lose!

And now 3 of you can play Trivial Pursuit Steal too! Here is how to enter to win your own Steal game from Hasbro!!:

Taking Family Game Night on the Road! Review and Giveaway!

Hasbro
Family game night is a great way to keep your family close and have fun together! And there are great games for any age group! Hasbro knows that families travel alot, and so to take the fun of some of your favorite games on the go, they have created some great new card games!!

I got to try out three of them: Sorry Revenge, Yahtzee Hands Down and Mille Bornes Card Game.  Here is a bit about each one!

Sorry Revenge:
SORRY! REVENGE Card Game

Win the race to flip all of your pawn cards home and sweet revenge is yours! Take turns to play number and action cards to change the play pile’s total. Get the pile to 21 without going bust to get one of your pawn cards home. But watch out – someone could play a SORRY! card and steal your win!
Includes 109 cards, 1 reminder card and instructions. For 2 to 4 players.
Ages 6 and up.
This game is a fun alternative to the regular Sorry! game, and is really easy to learn how to play! It gets everyone excited and involved, and is great for many families!
YAHTZEE HANDS DOWN Card GameKeep your wits about you and your eye on the cards! Collect dice cards to make classic combinations: 3 of a kind, 4 of a kind, small straight, large straight, full house and YAHTZEE! Re-roll by discarding cards you don’t need and taking a chance on new ones. But here’s the twist – pit your hand against another player’s. Score high and win the Combo card points. It’s great YAHTZEE fun in a card game!

Includes 12 combo cards, 12 chance cards, 84 dice cards, 1 starter card, 1 reminder card, 1 combo sheet and instructions.
For 2 to 6 players.
Ages 8 and up.
I love the original Yahtzee! This game is a fun twist and it makes it a refreshing new game while still a bit like the original! Also easier to keep the pieces, since you don't have a bunch of dice to keep track of!
And also I played Mille Bornes Card Game!
MILLE BORNES Card Game

Put your foot down… it’s time to play MILLE BORNES! Play distance cards and speed towards the finish line, or put the brakes on your opponent with nasty hazards! Drive carefully, because they’ll be playing hazards on you too. Out of gas? Play a Gasoline card. Got in an accident? Play your Repairs card. Be the first player to travel 1000 miles and win!
Includes 115 cards, instructions and scoresheet.
For 2, 3, 4 or 6 players.
Ages 8 and up.
I had never heard of or played this game before, but I was so excited to try it out! This was definitely my favorite, because not only are you playing to stay alive, but you are trying to set your opponent back too!  This game is fun no matter if you have 2 or 6 players! What a great way to pass the time!

Scrabble Game Keychain Review and Giveaway!

Games are a great way to have fun anytime with anyone! Sometimes though they can't be played just anywhere. Well I found a website that has all kinds of great games available in convenient on-the-go sizes!! WholesaleKeychain.com has keychains of all types, but I was particuarly interested in the mini games! They sent me Scrabble:
"Take the fun classic Scrabble word game with you everywhere. Our Scrabble key chain features a miniature reproduction of the game box that opens to reveal real working game, original game board graphics and removable game pieces. Limited game play.

-Officially licensed mini Scrabble game comes with a sturdy metal key ring.
-No minimum order required. Quantity discounts available.
-Scrabble game box measures: 2” long.
-Recommended for ages 8 and up. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small parts. Not intended for children under 3 years.

I liked how cute and small it was, and that it can go anywhere. The game has little tiny magnetic letters so they stay on the board when you play.  There were a few things I didn't like:
-The letters are SOOO tiny. They get lost easily.
-There are only 30 letters, which is much less than the regular game, so its harder to play.
-The board started peeling within a short amount of time.

Other than that, the game is a fun way to pass the time if you are at the doctors office, on the road, or anywhere you have to sit for more than a few minutes!

You can win your own Scrabble keychain from Wholesale Keychain!! Here is how to win!!:

MANDATORY ENTRY* THIS MUST BE DONE FOR ANY OTHER EXTRA ENTRY TO COUNT!

Buffalo Games Review and Giveaway!!

Games are a great way to blow off some steam and have some laughs!  My husband and I love to have our friends over for some games and drinks!  I was recently introduced to Buffalo Games!  They offer games and puzzles for anyone 14 and older!  Here is a little about Buffalo Games:

Buffalo Games was started in 1986 with the idea of bringing new kinds of games and puzzles to families, friends, and people across America.  Our first runaway bestseller, the double sided Worlds’ Most Difficult Jigsaw Puzzle, virtually defined the specialty jigsaw puzzle and helped establish us as a market leader and innovative pioneer.
We began our own manufacturing operation in 1996, and launched a line of traditional jigsaw puzzles soon thereafter – pairing superior domestic craftsmanship with the best artists and licenses in the world.  Some of the best examples are puzzles featuring Photomosaics, Norman Rockwell, Dennis Lewan, Coca-Cola, Art Poulin, Audubon, and the Hautman Brothers.  Catering to all family puzzling needs, we cut puzzles in 300, 500, 750, 1000 and 2000 piece counts.
In 1998, we introduced our first board game in a long time, the wildly successful iMAgiNiff.  Entering its 12th year, iMAgiNiff has sold nearly 2 million units and is a bit of a cultural phenomenon.  Other successful family and party games in our line include Last Word, T-Shirt Game, RUIN and Likewise, all of which follow our guiding principle that games should be easy to learn and fun to play, making those family get-togethers, parties and game nights that much more fun and rewarding.
Fast Forward to 2007, and you’ll find Buffalo Games operating from an 87,000 square foot facility in Buffalo, New York (ah…so that’s where the name comes from), employing more than 80 full-time people and having a blast creating products that are a lot of fun for you.  Our new and distinctive offerings this year include four new jigsaw puzzle series, numerous line refreshers, and our new, laugh-out-loud, pretend-to-know-your friends party game, Truth Be Told!
Buffalo Games products appeal to a wide variety of people and will create hours of enjoyment for gatherings of both friends and family.  On the puzzle side, we continue to expand our array of licenses with tremendously popular properties like Peanuts, Norman Rockwell, Coca-Cola, etc.  Through it all, we are guided by our mission – to make life more fun and rewarding.  Fun is what we are all about, from our product line to our work environment to our consumer and business relationships.  At the same time, we are passionate about making life rewarding, by crafting puzzles and games with superior play value and unparalleled quality. We strive to have everything we do meet both ideals, knowing that you, in the end, will be the judge. So sit back, explore the site, check out our products and have fun with Buffalo Games.

I got to try out 2 games! Truth Be Told and Last Word

Truth Be Told is the revealing new laugh-out-loud, pretend to know your friends party game!  Each round, one of the players in the Host, and plays a question card such as, “Truth Be Told, my favorite snack is _________.”  The Host writes a truthful answer – pork rinds.  All other players pretend to be the Host, and write bluff answers –which seems like something the Host wrote -  pretzelsprunessardines.  The Host collects and reads all answers aloud, and players try to guess the True Answer to score points.  Bluff answers score points too – so there are a lot of ways to win, and a lot of hooting, snickering and giggling along the way!

I liked this game a lot! It can be played with 3-8 players.  Truth Be Told had us all laughing and helps to get to know each other even better!

Last Word
Last Word: be the first player to advance to the Finish by creatively connecting Subjects and Letters, while racing a Random-Interval Timer and the other Players!  For example, Subject: "Vegetables"... Letter: "C".  Players yell out... Carrots!Cucumbers! Corn! Cauliflower! 'tick-tick' ... The player with the Last Word before the timer sounds advances.

This was my favorite game.  This can be played with 2-8 people and its even easy to adapt for younger kids.  You can pull out appropriate cards for little ones, like vegetables, or something that only women wear.  This can make it educational!

Check out Buffalo Games on Facebook!

What's A Dame to Do? Game Review

Who doesn't love a great girls night?!?! Good friends, good drinks and tons of fun!! To mix it up a bit, try the What's A Dame to Do? game from  Games for Dames!  You and your friends will be laughing all night as the game presents situations and asks the question: "What's a Dame to DO??"

Product Details
What's a DAME to do?!  Use female intuition and humor to guess how players would react to 'dame dilemmas.'  For example--You see an Ex at the grocery store 2 aisles away and you are NOT looking your best, what's a DAME to do?!  The answer is in the cards!  The laughter begins when players look over their hand of Reaction Cards and give you answers that they think fit the bill. Would you -- Hide in the bathroom?  Suck in your stomach?  Have a little chat?  Pray?  Put on your sunglasses? Yell fire??  You secretly choose your answer, then players guess what you chose. So simple and fun! Who guessed you best? Get out the tasty treats and favorite beverages and find out!  "It's like 'Sex and the City' meets 'Oprah!' "

This game is appropriate for girl's night in, bachelorette parties or any occasion when you and your girls are together!! You'll be having fun and learning more about each other!!  The questions aren't too risque, so you could even play with your grandma!! (Hey my grandma is one awesome chick lol)

The story behind Games for Dames
Two sisters, Kerri and Patti, are the brains behind games for dames™ and their premiere board game, What’s a DAME to do?!™.  Raised in the Midwest but now living on opposite coasts, Patti is a wife, mother and business woman residing in California, while Kerri is an acupuncturist and former art director for a women’s sportswear company, now living in Pennsylvania.

The two come from a game playing family (no one can beat their Dad at charades) and spent much of their childhood playing games—either existing ones—or ones they made up.  As teenagers, their favorite game to play with girlfriends was "Kings," a card game that predicted who you would marry.   (Any of you gals remember this one?  Each king in a regular deck of cards represented a guy you knew or a "Mystery Man.")  Patti always ended up with the Mystery Man (she married a man from Ireland) and Kerri, since she's still single, should probably break out a deck and get the latest info!

They continued their gaming ways through their college years and beyond.  One day while Kerri was visiting Patti, they found themselves in the mood for a good game but couldn’t find one that wasn’t strictly for kids, couples or keg parties.  What they wanted was a game like their old favorite, a game just for females, but adult females.  So they went ahead and created one.

Polite friends and family said the game was fun, but even Kerri and Patti found it pretty darn boring.  So they went back to the drawing board quite a few times until one day they came up with what they believed would be a hit….based on the fact that they couldn’t stop laughing and that their mom stayed up playing it until 2 a.m.!  That’s how What’s a DAME to do?!™ was born.

What’s a DAME to do?!™ is the premiere game in their growing line of games for dames™.

Family Game Night Giveaway!!

Hasbro is the place to find great family games!!!  And I would rather play games with my kids than let them sit in front of the t.v. all day!!  I was super excited to try the game Pictureka!

Product Details:

Find it fast!  Find it first!  Pictureka! is the exciting game of visual hide & seek.  Collect the most mission cards to win! Place the 9 game board tiles on the table in a 3 x 3 grid.  Players than take turns rolling the dice, selecting a mission card and trying to find objects fast or first.  Three different card decks keep the game exciting -- players either have to find a matching image or objects that fall into a category like "things that can fly".  And watch out, the gameboard can change on any turn -- special mission cards instruct players to turn over, rotate or switch one of the 9 gameboard tiles.  In this game its finders keepers: you get the card if you find the object fast or first.  Collect enough cards to win, and you're the Pictureka! champ!

My girls and I had a blast searching for all the silly things on the boards!! We even made a simpler version for the littlest one by removing the time limits, and simply taking turns searching for what the card asked!

This popular picture finding game is bringing family and friends together for fun for all ages! The games says 8 and up, but like I said we made up our own version for my 2 and 4 year old.  The cards are even in spanish and english, so its great for anyone, and even helpful in teaching a 2nd language!!

Fun Alphabet Activities!

Here are a few fun and quick ways to help your child learn their ABC's!!!

Activity 1: The Alphabet Song
Sing the alphabet song. Be sure to sing the letters "L", "M", "N","O", and "P". Have your child sing the song several times with you.

Activity 2: Alphabet Clap
Clap your hands while saying the alphabet. Say one letter for each clap. For example, when you clap the first time, say, "A". When you clap the second time, say, "B". Continue through the alphabet. Then have your child clap and say the alphabet.

Activity 3: Alphabet Bounce: (You will need a ball)
Stand in front of your child, and bounce a ball as you say the alphabet. For example, bounce the ball once and say, "A". Bounce the ball again and say, "B". Continue through the alphabet. Then have your child say the alphabet with you as you bounce the ball.

Activity 4: ABC Parade
Have your child stand behind you. March around the room, saying the alphabet as you step. Have your child say the alphabet with you. Later, let your child have a turn leading you around the room.

Activity 5: Family catch and say (You will need a ball)
Have your family sit in a circle. Have everyone pass a ball around the circle. The person who catches the ball says the next letter. Complete until you're finished or until your child is unable to say the next letter.
IF your child is unable to say the next letter, say the letter and ask your child to repeat it. Then continue the game!
