Redweek.com Review & Giveaway!

Family vacations are NOT cheap these days. Just getting to your destination alone can be ridiculously expensive. Then add in a place to stay, food and entertainment money and you are looking at a pretty expensive venture!  Timeshares are a great way to save money when you stay somewhere!  Redweek.com is a great place to find timeshares and plan your next vacation!

What is RedWeek.com?

At RedWeek.com, timeshare owners post their units for rent or sale to an audience of over 1.5 million registered users, or exchange it using Dial An Exchange (DAE).
Travelers come to RedWeek.com to rent or buy timeshares units directly from the owner, often at tremendous savings compared with hotels or dealing with the resort itself.

What Does it Cost?

It's FREE to view the resorts, availability, and our timeshare discussion forums.
A RedWeek Membership, just $14.99, allows you to contact owners about available units, access thousands of resort reviews, and want ads. Posting your own timeshare for rent, sale, or exchange requires a nominal additional fee

I checked out the website.  Since I am not in the market for a vacation any time soon, it was merely to see how it works and find out more.  It seems to be a good place to find a great deal on a time share.  I like staying in a time share because you can cook your own meals and save a lot of money not having to eat out for every meal.  This is a great way to go when you are on a budget.

I also really like being able to find something close to home.  I like mini-vacays where I can visit something within a few hours driving distance and just get away for a few days.  Sometimes these plans are put together in just a few weeks.  Redweek.com can help you find great deals on time shares even right before you are needing it!  I found a timeshare less than an hour away!  The rate was about $40 cheaper per night on Redweek than it was on the site for the actual timeshare.  So if we stayed for a week we would save $280! It is also a lot better than a hotel room-we would get a 2 bed 2 bath for $136 a night vs. a 1 bed 1 bath hotel for the same price! This is a great way to go!

So if you are planning a family vacation, check out Redweek.com and see what they have in store! You might be surprised with what you find-and how much you save!!

Primrose Schools & Dr. Z Encourage Families to Give Back

We all want our children to grow up to be compassionate adults who want to help others. That's why we're always on the lookout for good ways to encourage character and development. Our good friends at Primrose Schools, the leader in educational childcare, recommend that parents make an effort to introduce volunteerism at a young age.

That's why Dr. Mary Zurn, Vice President of Education for Primrose, is offering parents the four easy steps outlined below to start their children on a path to meaningful volunteerism.

Here are 4 Steps to getting your family interested in volunteering:

Step 1: Clarify your personal goals and motives for wanting to include your child in volunteer activities. Volunteering is a wonderful way to a share your values with your child. Pick a cause that is meaningful to you and your family rather than one that is simply convenient.

Step 2: Explain the importance of volunteerism and the contribution volunteers can make. A child's favorite question is "why?" Keep your answers simple and concrete. For example, if you are going to volunteer at the food bank, tell your child that "The food bank has lots of food for people who need it, and it will be our job to sort the food so that people are able to find what they need."

Step 3: Choose volunteer activities to do with your children that are age-appropriate. Children as young as three can begin volunteering. At this age they begin to enjoy participation in group activities and are better able to follow directions. Remember that a preschooler's concept of the world is not very large and is usually limited primarily to their home, neighborhood and school; therefore, it is important to keep the activity within the realm of what they can imagine. A few examples:
  • Participate in "clean the park" activities. Be sure to have your child wear gloves.
  • Take recyclables to recycling collection centers.
  • Act as a companion to the elderly in retirement or assisted living homes. Simply listening to their stories and relieving their loneliness provides multiple benefits for the senior citizen and your child.
  • Participate in local races and walks that raise money for a charitable cause that you think is important; most races have a shorter race for children.
  • Sort food at a food bank. Be sure to confirm that children are welcome to volunteer and that it will be a safe environment.
Step 4: Find a child-friendly not-for-profit. Ask the following questions to help you select the volunteer opportunity that is right for your family:
  • Does the organization have experience with and a history of successfully working with children and families? Will the organization provide me with a reference from another family who has volunteered with them?
  • Will the organization staff welcome my child's participation?
  • Is there a specific job that my child can do successfully? Who will show my children what to do?
  • Are there special clothes or supplies needed for my child to volunteer with this organization?
  • Does the organization conduct appropriate background screenings on its staff? Does the organization have insurance if there is an accident while your family is volunteering?
  • Can the organization provide a concrete example that will help your child understand how his or her efforts benefit others?
To find these and other great tips for parents, check out Dr. Zurn's blog at DrZandme.com. For more information on Primrose Schools, visit www.primroseschools.com.  You can also check them out on Facebook and Twitter!

Win a $50 gift card to R.E.I. or Travelocity from Breathe Right!!!

Did you know that nighttime nasal congestion can affect your sleep, which then impacts how you feel the next day? Whether you are suffering from stuffiness due to colds, allergies, or a deviated septum, Breathe Right has a drug-free solution that works instantly and can help you breathe better, sleep better, and feel better.
So how can we keep our family healthy during this time of year?  Here are some tips from my family to yours!:

1. Take a multi vitamin! I have found my daughter's get less cold when I have them taking a children's vitamin than when they don't use them.  There are many different forms of vitamins available, like regular pills, chewables, gummy or even a powder supplemetnt.

2. Get a balanced diet.  Eating a healthy diet and including fruits and veggies are key to good health.  By eating right, you are giving your body the nutrients it needs to fight off illness and keep your immune system up and running!

3.  Stay active! This will help you stay healthy not just now but in the long run.  Leading an active lifestyle results in fewer serious health issues, especially as you get older!

4.  Clean!!!!  Be concious of things like germy counters, door handles, etc.  Wash down counters daily with a disenfecting spray or wipe to keep germs off food.  Wipe down door handles, light switches and other things that are in constant contact with hands to prevent spreading germs.

5. And speaking of hands!! Make sure you and your family are avid hand washers! This is one of the best ways to prevent spreading germs.  But it isn't always enough, you should use a hand sanitizer as well that is alcohol based to truly get rid of all those icky germs.

6.  Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. And do it with your elbow, not your hand.  This keeps you

Surviving the distance: long distance families.

Many of you have likely been affected by the big economic crisis, and if you are like my family, that means being unemployed. My husband is in the construction business and has been doing it about 10 years. The last 2 years he has had minimal amounts of work and it has gotten pretty bad.   I read an article in the May edition of Readers Digest about long distance marriages; families where one parent travels or lives in another area or even state.  One father traveled out of state for work and came home on the weekends. I remember reading it and thinking to myself that it would never work for my family.

Well not even a week later, my husband got a job offer, finally after months of searcing for a full time job with no results.  The only hitch? It was in North Dakota. We live in Washington state. Thats about 1000 miles away.  I was instantly thinking to myself "how am I going to be here with all 3 kids all alone????" and went into panic mode.  Well we talked and talked for 2 days and finally decided to send him out there the next day with a friend of his also seeking a job out there.  That was 2 weeks a go today.

My husband had a job the day he got there, and has been working hard since then!! I am proud of him and glad that we are back on track and he is sacrificing alot to take care of our family.  He misses us and we miss him like crazy! The kids kiss his picture every morning and night, and we spend time on the phone as much as possible. The move isn't forever, just as long as he has work available and until he can find something again back home. He is making more money now than he has ever before, and we will be able to buy a new car in a couple months!

So consider the benefits of a long distance marriage, at least temporarily if you or your spouse needs a job and cannot find one anywhere locally.  This saved our family and our house, and it could be the thing that helps you!

Scrabble Game Keychain Review and Giveaway!

Games are a great way to have fun anytime with anyone! Sometimes though they can't be played just anywhere. Well I found a website that has all kinds of great games available in convenient on-the-go sizes!! WholesaleKeychain.com has keychains of all types, but I was particuarly interested in the mini games! They sent me Scrabble:
"Take the fun classic Scrabble word game with you everywhere. Our Scrabble key chain features a miniature reproduction of the game box that opens to reveal real working game, original game board graphics and removable game pieces. Limited game play.

-Officially licensed mini Scrabble game comes with a sturdy metal key ring.
-No minimum order required. Quantity discounts available.
-Scrabble game box measures: 2” long.
-Recommended for ages 8 and up. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small parts. Not intended for children under 3 years.

I liked how cute and small it was, and that it can go anywhere. The game has little tiny magnetic letters so they stay on the board when you play.  There were a few things I didn't like:
-The letters are SOOO tiny. They get lost easily.
-There are only 30 letters, which is much less than the regular game, so its harder to play.
-The board started peeling within a short amount of time.

Other than that, the game is a fun way to pass the time if you are at the doctors office, on the road, or anywhere you have to sit for more than a few minutes!

You can win your own Scrabble keychain from Wholesale Keychain!! Here is how to win!!:

MANDATORY ENTRY* THIS MUST BE DONE FOR ANY OTHER EXTRA ENTRY TO COUNT!

Frugal Family Fun this Summer!

Summer is finally here. For most of us, though, that doesn’t mean an exotic vacation or an extended getaway. According to the Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle Monitor survey, 68% of consumers say they will not go on vacation this year, primarily for financial reasons. So what are some fun affordable options for having fun this summer?

Heading to the park, the beach, or even your own backyard can be a transformed into a mini-vaca. Or pack a lunch with favorites and hit the baseball field with the whole family. A quick tip: choosing natural and sustainable fibers like cotton for outdoor activities is key to beating the heat and staying comfortable.

Eco Store Review

I have been trying the Green Movement lately like a lot of other people! Something that has been important to me has been having products that are healthy for my family and the environment for cleaning and maintaining my house. I found a great place to buy these kinds of products: Eco Store!

It's important to reduce our exposure to unhealthy chemicals. Many synthetic chemicals are known to be harmful to health and can cause skin irritation or eczema. Eco Store uses plant based surfacants, simple mineral salts and essential plant oils while still giving the same results of harsh chemical cleaners. What's good for our health is also good for the earth. Eco Store's products are highly biodegradable and contain earth safe ingredients from sustainable resources.

I seriously already used almost the whole bottle of the Citrus Based Spray Cleaner!! I use it without worrying about it harming my family! This great spray is made from things like D-Limonene (zest of citrus peel), and palm and coconut based non-ionic and anionic surfacants. These are plant based ingredients!!! I use the citrus cleaner for cleaning the counters, the stove, the sink, the fridge, even the bathroom!! It cleans and kills the bacteria at the same time!! The spray in naturally antibacterial!

This spray contains: NO NASTY CHEMIALS,NO TOXIC PETROCHEMICALS,NO PHOSPHATES,

NO BENZENE, NO BLEACH, NO NITRATES, NO AMMONIA, NO CHLORINE, NO EDTA, NO SYNTHETIC DYES OR PERFUMES.

Eco Store doesn't test on animals and their products are made in New Zeland. Eco Store even won the 2002 Green Ribbon Award from the New Zeland Ministry for the Environment! The best part is that Eco friendly doesn't have to cost more!!! Eco Store's products are totally affordable and their prices are comparable to those of chemical cleaners.
I also got to try the Eco Pets Soothing Hypoallergenic Shampoo! This is gentle on itchy, sensitive skin!! I tried it on my dog, who has been itching since his fur is changing. He doesn't have fleas, so we tried the shampoo and he didn't itch afterwards!! The smell is refreshing but not unnatural! This leaves your dog (or cat) smelling nice! This can be used on dogs or cats over 6 weeks old. It is expertly designed to penetrate safely into the skin where it is most effective. And its gentle enough to use frequently!! Keep your dog smelling good and you can rest assured that its good for his skin! You're spoiling your pet with a nourishing, rich blend of ingredients and showing them how much you care by reducing their exposure to unhealthy chemicals.

This shampoo contains: NO NASTY CHEMICALS, NO TOXIC PETROCHEMICALS, NO LAURYL OR LAURETH SULFATES, NO PROPYLENE GLYCOL, NO DYES, NO ARTIFICIAL PERFUMES, NO PARABENS, NO COCAMIDE DEA, AND NO COCOMIDOPROPUL BETAINE.

I love the Eco Store's products and can't wait to try out some of their other great stuff!!

What to do when your child is lost.

This past weekend, my husband and I had the scariest experience of our lives. We were at a local festival, where they had the park set up with dozens of booths for kids day. There must have been over 500 people in a park no bigger than 2 ½ acres. Well, we were getting ready to leave and my husband spotted a friend. I was going to the picture booth and had our youngest with me. My husband had our middle child and my oldest daughter was going to go with me but decided to go with daddy. After getting the picture that we had taken earlier, I went back to the spot I had left my husband. He was there with our middle daughter, but our oldest was no where to be found.

We both began to hunt the aisles of the fair for her, trying frantically to spot the little blonde girl in the swarms of people. As minute after minute ticked by, I began to get more and more scared, trying to figure out what went wrong and where she could be. Finally I spotter her across the way with a woman carrying her to the entertainment stage. I literally shoved my stroller through the crowd as I ran to get her. As I made my way I could hear the woman on the microphone, saying my daughter's name, that she really wants to find her parents Lisa and Brian and she's 4 years old. That was the happiest reunion ever!!! She was crying, I was crying....it was emotional!! I was so proud that she knew to find a nice woman to help her, and was able to tell her name, age and parent's names, even in a scary situation!! Here are my tips to helping your child be prepared if this should happen to you!!:

1. As soon as your child begins to speak, teach them her or his name. First and last. We even taught mine her middle name!! For us this began just after she turned 1, and by 18 months she had quite the vocabulary!
2. Teach your child the names of you and your spouse. Again first and last. Especially if somebody has a different last name than the child. The more info the child can supply in an emergency the better!

3. Teach your child to find a nice looking woman. Sorry to offend all you men out there, but it is more likely a man will snatch a child than a woman, NOT THAT WOMEN ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DOING SO. But generally it is recommended to seek an adult woman or police officer to help you. Or tell your child to find a woman with kids of her own.

4. When they are older, teach address and phone number. Of course teach them discretion as to when and with who they should share this, but its important to know in the case that they are kidnapped and will help reuniting happen faster.
5. Tell your child to try to stay in one spot if they should get separated from you. This makes it easier to find them and quicker too.

What do you do if your child goes missing?

If you are in public, search the immediate area you are in and last saw your child. Ask if anyone has seen your child. Always be sure you know what your child is wearing. If there are security guards or police, notify them of the missing child. If not, seek the customer service desk or an employee for help.

If your child is not found within a few minutes, contact authorities to help you find him/her. Time is precious and if your child has been abducted you want to be sure to get someone on the case a.s.a.p.

If your teen is missing, contact friends and family and see if anyone knows anything. Cases can be runaways or abductions, and you can never be too cautious. Your child's safety is the number one priority.

Hearth Song Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker Review and Giveaway!

Ice cream goes pretty fast in our house!! So I was super excited to try out the Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker from Hearth Song!! This ingenious toy actually makes ice cream inside it while you play with it!! How cool is that?!?!? I was totally shocked and intrigued when I saw it, and when it came we got it out and tried it right then and there!!

Here's how it works:

You fill ice end of the ball with as much ice as you possibly can fit!! Then add one cup of rock salt* Close the lid securely!

Rock salt works best, but sea salt and kosher salt are good substitutes!! When using sea salt or kosher salt, use and additional ¼ cup. Do not use driveway chemicals (calcium chloride or potassium chloride.)

Mix up your ice cream ingredients in a container. Remove lid form the end with the metal cylinder and pour in your ingredients. Close the lid securely but do not use the plastic wrench to tighten the lid.

Now comes the fun!! Shake, roll and pass the ball and freeze the ice cream at the same time!! After 15 minutes open the ice cream end and scrape the hard ice cream off the sides of the can. Mix with the liquidy ice cream in the center. Close the lid again and then check the ice end. Pour out the excess water and add more ice ad up to 1/3 cup rock salt. Close the lid and continue to play 15 minutes or until the ice cream is the best consistency!

Now, I have found that you have to experiment with the time to get the right consistency. I would also recommend using cream, NOT half and half. This will give it a better consistency. There are tons of great recipes that come with the ice cream ball, and you can also purchase the ice cream flavors set to add instant flavor to your ice cream!! I found the chocolate flavoring to be too artificial, so I would recommend using your favorite chocolate syrup to add chocolate flavor.

Here is what my 4 year had to say about it: I love it!! I want to play with it everyday. It's fun to play with.

We played with my 3 daughters and myself! We had a blast passing, rolling and shaking the ball! A couple times they tried to kick it, and I had to remind them you can't bounce, drop or kick the ball or it will break! You also have to be sure that the lid goes on very securely, or it may leak. You must line it up right and be sure there are no gaps in the seal.

The Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker is great for use indoors or outdoors! I would recommend doing it in a shady spot on hot days, as the heat from outdoors may prolong the freezing process. This ball is great for any age, we played with a child as young as 16 months!! I am planning on using it for our daughter's birthday as a game and dessert in one!! There are going to be lots of kids so it should be a great way to keep them entertained!!

It is also important to remember to KEEP THE BALL MOVING!!! That was the struggle I faced playing with really little ones because they want to say who they pass it to.... “I'll pass it to mommy.....” you get the picture. It just takes longer to get to the right consistency if its not moving constantly.

A newborn’s conversation with God…..

A baby asked God, ‘They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?’ God said, ‘Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.’

The child further inquired, ‘But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.’ God said, ‘Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel’s love and be very happy.’

Again the child asked, ‘And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?’ God said, ‘Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.’

‘And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?’ God said, ‘Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.’

‘Who will protect me?’ God said, ‘Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.’

‘But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.’ God said, ‘Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.’

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, ‘God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.’

God said, ‘You will simply call her, ‘Mom.’

Family Game Night Giveaway!!

Hasbro is the place to find great family games!!!  And I would rather play games with my kids than let them sit in front of the t.v. all day!!  I was super excited to try the game Pictureka!

Product Details:

Find it fast!  Find it first!  Pictureka! is the exciting game of visual hide & seek.  Collect the most mission cards to win! Place the 9 game board tiles on the table in a 3 x 3 grid.  Players than take turns rolling the dice, selecting a mission card and trying to find objects fast or first.  Three different card decks keep the game exciting -- players either have to find a matching image or objects that fall into a category like "things that can fly".  And watch out, the gameboard can change on any turn -- special mission cards instruct players to turn over, rotate or switch one of the 9 gameboard tiles.  In this game its finders keepers: you get the card if you find the object fast or first.  Collect enough cards to win, and you're the Pictureka! champ!

My girls and I had a blast searching for all the silly things on the boards!! We even made a simpler version for the littlest one by removing the time limits, and simply taking turns searching for what the card asked!

This popular picture finding game is bringing family and friends together for fun for all ages! The games says 8 and up, but like I said we made up our own version for my 2 and 4 year old.  The cards are even in spanish and english, so its great for anyone, and even helpful in teaching a 2nd language!!

Baby's 1st Phone Call Review and Giveaway!

One of the biggest tasks of a new mom is trying to call EVERYONE and let them know that they finally have their sweet bundle of joy! But sometimes, between extended families and lots of friends, this can go from an exciting moment to a stressful one.  Now, bring in Baby's 1st Phone Call, who will make those calls for you!

Baby's First Phone Call is an automated call tree that allows you to notify all of your friends and family of the arrival of your bundle of joy without the hassle of making dozens of individual phone calls, or leaving some friends and family to find out second- or third-hand.
With Baby's First Phone Call, you set up an account before your baby is born—when you still have a moment of time to yourself—and enter the names and phone numbers of all the people you want to notify when the baby arrives. Then, after the baby is born, you make a single phone call and leave a personal voice-mail message of any length with all the details you want to share.
Not only can you tell your friends and family when your little bundle arrived, you can share information such as the hospital and room number you're in and whether and when you'd like to receive visitors.
Our system places calls to each of the phone numbers in your account. If the person answers the phone they hear your happy message. If they don't answer, the message is left on their voicemail or answering machine. In either case, there is an option for them to leave you a return message that you can pick up at your convenience.
It's really that easy! You're doing all the hard work; let us make spreading the good news easy for you.
Use Baby's First Phone Call to notify your book group, your friends from Lamaze class, your co-workers and your extended family. Now you have the perfect way to send a personal message with your joyous news to everyone in your network!
With Baby's First Phone Call, you won't forget to notify anyone of your news and nobody will be the last to know!

Purchase a package for you or a friend here:  Baby's First Phone Call
